How has your outlook been lately? If it has been trending toward the negative, perhaps it’s time for an attitude check. That’s what I’ve found in my own case, anyway. I believe that outlook and attitude go hand in hand.
This is what I mean, and you may have experienced this yourself: If you have a bad attitude, then your outlook on things (and life in general) is going to be very negative. On the other hand, you tend to be more optimistic when you have a positive attitude.
So the answer would seem to be simple, wouldn’t it?
If you’re having a lot of problems lately, you might be having a problem with your attitude. If so, just change your attitude.
PROBLEM: Easier said than done.
Especially when you’re fighting this dragon called bipolar disorder at the same time. Don’t you find that it raises its ugly head at the very worst of times and becomes your worst enemy, making every effort you make a never-ending battle?
It can get so discouraging sometimes that you wonder if you’re ever going to win this war against bipolar disorder at all.
Here’s the thing, though. YOU CAN NEVER GIVE UP! If you give up, it wins. And you just can’t let that happen.
So, if you’ve slipped into a defeatist attitude (it can happen – I know, it’s happened to me plenty of times), you need to get yourself out of it. Quickly. Before you lose any more battles with your bipolar disorder.
One thing you can do is set some short-term goals. Make them easy ones – ones that you can meet. This will help improve your self-esteem as well as change your attitude in general. It will also help you to have a better outlook on things, as you feel a sense of accomplishment by meeting your goals.
As you feel better about yourself, you will start to feel better about things in general. Then you can start to set some long-term goals. As you start to meet those long-term goals, things will just get better and better for you.
Another thing you can do to change your attitude is to do something nice for yourself. Reward yourself for being stable today. That’s right – just for not being in an episode today. Do something that you enjoy – that feels good. It will not only change your attitude, but it will change your outlook as well.
Wishing you joy and stability,
Remember God loves you and so do I,
Michele
