    People are generally confused by the concept of bipolar personality disorder since it is one of the lesser known and certainly more invisible mental illnesses.   Bipolar disorder is a mental illness that causes severe alterations in behavior, attitude, thinking and mood. A person inflicted with bipolar disorder can experience extreme mood shifts between euphoria and depression.

    It is indeed difficult for the common person to differentiate between the various forms of mental disorders.  Media, like cinema have etched certain stereotypes by which we identify certain illness.  In reality it is essential that we should be able to recognize the symptoms of bipolar disorder from the symptoms of schizophrenia or other similar disorders.  The web has, of course, increased our access to know more about these subjects at the click of a button.  

    Psychiatrists define the disorder of the mood in a person  bipolar disorder.  Here a patient experiences episodes or occurrences of mood as either a very high-level or euphoric stage or sometimes to a very depressed state.  The bipolar causes which trigger these instances of mood variation are plenty and cannot be attributed to a single cause.
