My loved one won't take his/her medicine. What should I do?
This is a very complicated question. I devote a large part of my course on this issue. For more information, visit: http://www.bipolarcentral.com/supporterreport

My loved one refuses to acknowledge he/she is bipolar and won't go to the doctor and/or the hospital.
This is a good question and takes a lot of explaining. In my course at http://www.bipolarcentral.com/supporterreport I spend a considerable amount of time on this topic. Don't let anyone fool you into thinking there are magic words you can say or some kind of easy solutions. There isn't but there are a lot of things you can do. I outline all of them in my course.

My loved one has threatened suicide, what should I do?
You should talk to their doctor and therapist immediately. If a person threatens themselves or another, they can be committed or brought in the hospital. You should call their doctor, therapist, local hospital social worker and the mental health department in your area. Let all these people know what is going on so they can do something. Also, you can call this number for help for suicide related issues. 1.800.SUICIDE (784-2433) or visit http://www.hopeline.com

My loved one gets violent when he/she gets into a manic episode.
If a person uses violence against you, you need to contact the police (make sure you tell the police mental illness is involved so they don't shoot the individual). Also, call your local hospital or mental health department (check in the yellow pages or ask the hospital social worker), and they can come out and bring your loved one into the hospital or help you in a number of other ways.

What medicine is your mother on?
I don't talk about my mother's prescription medicine because each person is different and my mother's medicine may or may not be the best for you. It best to find a good doctor and follow his/her advice. In my courses, I have information on how to find a good doctor.

What do you think about the medicine your mother is on?
I don't have any real comments on any drugs and medications because I am not a doctor. I believe in finding a good doctor and listening to what he/she says and having him/her "tweak" or modify the medicine in such a way to stability is created.

My loved one is terrible without his/her medication. He/she has threatened to kill me if I leave him/her. Please help me.
This is obviously a tough situation. I have never had such a problem. I think the best thing to do is work towards getting your loved one to the hospital or a doctor AND at the same time you should also be to a domestic violence support organizations so they can help you plan an exit strategy from the relationship without any danger coming to you. Please visit http://www.ndvh.org or call 1-800-799-7233 for help.

These people can help you make a plan if your loved one refuses to get help and abuses you. My last words on this is, if they don't get help the situation will not get better and you have a right to leave no matter what you think about the "for better or worse part of the marital vows". Marital vows don't say stay with someone who can get help but refuses to and get abused.

Can you recommend any support groups?
I don't recommend support groups. I don't have information on which support groups are good or bad. But you can read my article on support groups, how to find them for yourself and things you should be aware of under the "articles" part of the website.

Why are you selling your information?
Because I have to. If I don't sell it, I won't be able to afford to offer it. There are costs involved like setting up and hosting a website, driving traffic to it, making the course, shipping it out, etc.

Why don't you give it away for free?
I would go broke. What kind of sense would it make for me to go into debt or go broke mailing out free courses?

I've signed up for your mini course. Why are you stringing me along with the information?
I get this one every now and then. Some people think that NOT overwhelming someone with a massive amount of information is "stringing" them along. The interesting thing is, when I had all the information upfront in a few days, people started writing me angry emails saying "Why are you bombarding me with all this information. I can't absorb it. Please stop emailing me."

So I decided that 90% of the people on the list, if not more, didn't know a lot about bipolar. So I stretched the information out for a longer period of time so people could get it in bite size. And, at any time, people have the option to get all the information right away by getting my course.

Why are you taking advantage of people's misfortune?
I'm not. If you are bipolar or supporting someone who is, you have to start getting serious and not treating it like a joke or hobby. Stop worrying about spending money on educating yourself and start doing it. If you have to buy things to help yourself or your loved one, then do it. Don't cheat yourself out of educating yourself about your or your love one's illness. This goes for my course and anything else you might find.

What's your feeling on natural remedies for bipolar?
I would stay away from them. I believe in finding a great doctor who will prescribe one or more of the various medications to help stabilize a person. Keep in mind, in my day job I sell nutritional supplements but I would NEVER tell someone with bipolar to try to find natural herbs to help them over medicine. I have NEVER heard of one case where a person became stable through natural herbs or stayed stable without medicine through natural herbs.

I can't stress it enough. Find a great doctor. Take the medication he/she recommends and NEVER get off the medicine to switch to something natural. It could be a real disaster. And one last thing if you want to take supplements to improve and maintain good health, make sure you check with your doctor first and run everything by him/her.

Are you for real?
Yes I am. Keep in mind, what author answers questions personally and even includes his phone number to call?

I bet you make a ton of money doing this. Do you?
I don't. There are MANY costs associated with all of this. Not to mention I get about 147 emails a week to answer personally. I get about 21 phone calls a week as well.

Is this a scam?
No if you look at my story and know anything at all about bipolar and depression, you would know, it would be hard to make these things up. This is not a scam and this is a serious situation that I have gone through.

Do you offer consulting?
Yes I do. But it's NOT for medical related questions. Click here for more information.

Why won't you talk to people in depth before they get any of your courses?
Because 99.9% of the things that they want to talk about is covered in one of my courses. Plus, it's much easier to talk to people after they've gone through my course as opposed to talking for an hour over the phone. I have found that when I spend up to 2 hours on the phone with someone, they retain little to none of the information I tell them anyway. You need to get the audio tapes and written materials and review them to absorb the information, just like the way it works at school. That's why I sell a course, not just any old book.

How long are you going to keep doing this?
I'm not sure. It's a whole lot of work and I'm not making a million a year. I like the fact I have helped many people but every now and then a person annoys me with a comment like "why can't you send this course for free" or a comment about me making this all up or something about me taking advantage of people's misfortune. Although this is 3 people a month, it really annoys me.

I understand that 95% of these people are mad because of their situation but it still annoys me and when I see messages like that I sometimes feel like taking down the entire website and system and letting people fend for themselves.

I have setup this site to kind of run on it's own in the future and provide a ton of information for people.

My loved one doesn't think he/she has a problem and won't get help.
There are many strategies you can try to employ. My Bipolar Supporters Course covers this in detail. You have to look at it this way; there are many strategies to try to get someone to help. You try them one by one until you find the one that works. If you don't find one that works, use the free consultation in the course and we will make a plan together.

You might say that this is a copout on my part but the truth of the matter is there is NO single universal strategy for this situation that works for everyone.

STIMULUS PAYMENT IRS TAX RETURN

Dealing with the government is never an easy task, and can be downright overwhelming for those with bipolar disorder and their supporters. If you've had to deal with applying for SSI and/or SSDI, you know what I mean; however, in this case, it could mean up to $600 in your pocket!

If you are on SSDI, then you've probably gotten a packet with information on (or at least heard of) the President's new bill called a "Stimulus Payment" return from the IRS for 2007 tax returns.

At first I wasn't going to take advantage of this because when I first went on disability for my bipolar disorder, it was a nightmare – one I wasn't likely to repeat. That is, until I heard that this "Stimulus Payment" could be a refund up to $600!

Well, yes, it did take me several calls with long waiting periods, and some confusion and misunderstandings for me to finally get to the right person to help me do it, but I was able to do it, and I want to tell you how you can do it, too. I want you to benefit from my experience, without having to go through all the phone calls, waiting time, and people that I had to.

How to Recover from a Hypomanic Episode

Hypomania is a milder form of bipolar mania, in which the person does not experience a full mania and may or may not experience a subsequent depression.

The definition of hypomania is: "A distinct period of persistently elevated, expansive, or irritable mood, lasting throughout at least 4 days, that is clearly different from the usual non-depressed mood. "
