Can Peace and Turmoil Coexist in Bipolar Disorder?

Hey, y’all –

Hope you’re doing ok today.  Well, it’s ‘Monday.  Glad they only put one of these in a week!  It’s so hard to start a new work week, when my mind is still on Sunday, when I relax and watch old movies all day.  That brought me to today’s topic (in a roundabout way): Can peace and turmoil coexist in bipolar disorder?

Well, for me… I am a rapid cycler, so sometimes they coexist on the same day! :)

But by their very definitions, I think they coexist in all of us who have the disorder.   It’s just the nature of the beast (or dragon, as I call the disorder).

Maybe a better title would have been can they coexist PEACEFULLY together?

Because some days we’re up, and some days we’re down.  Simple as that.

We have a mood disorder, no getting around that.  So some days we’ll feel pretty good, while other days we’ll be depressed.  But those are just our moods.

I think the ideas of peace and turmoil suggest more of a choice on our part, really.

Let’s look at turmoil first.  Have you ever noticed that some people have drama written all over them, or live from crisis to crisis?  They say that some people are better in emergencies, while others are better at creating them.

It’s in your attitude – you can choose to face a problem as a challenge, or you can choose to make it a crisis.  Still, it’s your choice.  Make it into a crisis, and you have caused yourself needless turmoil.

Learning how to become a more positive person might help you.

Now let’s look at peace.  I believe that peace is the absence of turmoil.  And I believe that peace is something that you can achieve for yourself.  Some people do it by meditating, others by prayer.

Some people have to take medication to control their anxiety and stress.  But that’s ok, because it leads to the same ends.

There are stress management exercises that some people do to have peace in their lives.  Others do it by listening to quiet music.

However you do it, you need to have a peaceful life to maintain stability with bipolar disorder.

Yes, peace and turmoil can coexist together peacefully, if you keep a positive attitude and do the work to keep them under control.

Wishing you peace and stability,

Remember God loves you and so do I,

Michele
