Psychiatrists define the disorder of the mood in a person  bipolar disorder.  Here a patient experiences episodes or occurrences of mood as either a very high-level or euphoric stage or sometimes to a very depressed state.  The bipolar causes which trigger these instances of mood variation are plenty and cannot be attributed to a single cause.

More often than not, the reason the bipolar disorder occurs is a combination of two factors. Genetic maladies influenced by environmental factors are identified as bipolar causes  but this is not to say a minor vulnerability should snowball into a manic outburst.  Recent studies done with the help of brain imaging have proven beyond a doubt that the brain of a bipolar afflicted patient undergoes physical changes.  Additionally, it results in the imbalance in neurotransmission, abnormality of the thyroid, disturbances in the biological clock or the circadian rhythm and the presence of high levels of the stress causing hormone cortisol.

Psychiatrists have named  the external conditions that cause these incidents  triggers.  These triggers either increase the occurrence of new episodes of extreme behavior or may worsen the given instances.  But sometimes, bipolar disorder episodes could occur even without a trigger.

Let’s look at some of the main bipolar causes:

One of the most common causes is the sleep-deprivation cause.  Sometimes, even a few hours of  sleep causes the mood swings to happen.  Marinating a strict regime on the sleeping cycles is essential with people prone to this symptom.

Stress is another important trigger of bipolar disorder, especially if there seems to be a family history of the disorder.  Even a small step as going to college or the death of a close relative or losing one’s job or relocating to a different place, trigger a mild occurrence of this disorder. Another of the bipolar causes is substance abuse. Drugs are some of the most conclusive triggers of severe bouts of this disorder to occur.  Drugs such as cocaine, amphetamines cause mania while alcohol and tranquilizers cause depression.

Some of the prescription medicines also cause bipolar disorder.   Medicines for colds whichare available without a prescription could also cause mania.  Anti-depressants also cause a subtle form of mania occurrences.  Sometimes. even change in the climatic conditions and seasonal changes also trigger these attacks.  Hence, we see greater manic episodes during the hotter summer days and bouts of depression during the cold dark winters.

Thus the bipolar causes are numerous.  Each influences the extent to which a type of disorder manifests in an individual. Under the guidance of experts, the care-givers will have to work on removing these  triggers that may precipitate outbursts in a chronic bipolar disorder patient.
