As I was getting ready to head out for some holiday fun, I thought I should safe with you some thoughts about how to be safe during the holidays if you have Bipolar Disorder or support someone with bipolar.

Lots of people do a lot of partying and make decisions that aren't very good -- drinking and driving or going somewhere really late and driving home too tired.

If you have Bipolar Disorder, make sure that you do not make a bad decision about going out. Avoid alcohol and rowdy, stressful parties. If you feel very tired, ask someone to drive you home.

If you are supporting someone with Bipolar Disorder, be sure your loved one can reach you if they need you. Be prepared to come drive them home if necessary.

Have fun this holiday season, but remember to be safe and take care of yourself first and foremost.
