How To Become A One Man Or Woman Army And Get Stuff Accomplished

There are numerous occasions when you'll have to insist on results on your own and demand action on behalf of your bipolar loved one. It can be hard to do because you will feel like you are alone against a huge organization. You have to have the proper mindset. You have to call people's bosses, call the bosses' bosses. You have to make many phone calls. You have to be firm. When you start to do this and keep on doing it, if you are right, generally you will win and wear down the people you are up against.

If you are not one for conflict, you might feel strange or think some of my suggestions are harsh. They aren't. It seems that until I became a one man army, many people didn't take action on serious issues with respect to my mom. I had to get stern and tough with doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, the IRS, creditors, etc.

If you are a woman, you may be called a bitch. If you are a man, you may be called mean or controlling.

Don't let this deter you. You are on a good mission and unfortunately, in life, it seems that in order to get things done, you sometimes have to turn up the heat on people. People don't move until there is pressure. It sounds mean but it's true.

I notice this when I'm trying to get things done for my mom.

Tips For Having The Effect Of Thousands Of People:

  • When you don't get the results you want, demand to speak to a supervisor. They will have more authority to make decisions and exceptions.
     
  • Always get the names and numbers of any supervisors involved so that you can refer to them if you need to move up the chain of command.
     
  • Be persistent - keep calling back, writing letters and returning to offices on a regular basis and don't give up.
     
  • Get the names of presidents, CEOs of any companies or organizations you are dealing with and write letters to them explaining your needs and concerns. In these letters, mention the details of your local calls so that they have the opportunity to follow up on your behalf.
     
  • Be armed with detailed information and statistics for every phone call. Have detailed information on your loved one and what they need on hand to refer to so that you can quickly answer questions.
     
  • Rally friends in your support group or community who also have bipolar loved ones and suggest that they contact the same agencies. A surge in requests for services or aid may improve your chances for a response.

I received an email from a person the other day. She asked me why so many great successful people, leaders, business people, etc. have Bipolar Disorder. I have long had a theory (but I don't have any kind of study to point to which would prove my theory). Here's what I think, though:
