Writers/Editors
Job Description

Writers and/or editors will help in preparing a variety of informational books, ebooks, articles, newsletters, etc. targeted at individuals with mental illnesses, as well as their supporters. Writers and/or editors should be high functioning, organized, and highly qualified and experienced in written communications.

Schedule
Writers and editors work on a “deadline” basis. In other words, when selected for a project, the writer and/or editor will be given a particular deadline, and he or she is responsible to prioritize the work and plan accordingly in order to get the project done on time and with excellence. You are free to set your own schedule—as long as you meet the deadline and turn in a quality product.

Tasks

Writers will be responsible for the following:

  • Research: Doing necessary upfront research to ensure that your finished document is accurate and complete.
  • Clear writing: Communicating clearly, concisely, and compellingly on a variety of topics. Your finished product should be a pleasure to read—not a chore.
  • Source citation: Carefully documenting and footnoting all outside sources.
  • Originality: Never copying or plagiarizing another’s work. Your finished document should be 100% original. If you do quote others, those quotes should be clearly marked as quotations and cited. I do NOT tolerate plagiarism.
  • On-time delivery: Meeting or exceeding the deadline. If an emergency arises and you cannot meet a deadline, I expect you to let me know ahead of time so that I can plan accordingly.

Editors will be responsible for the following:

  • Editing/Proofreading: Reading manuscripts for spelling, grammatical, punctuation, and formatting errors, and correcting those errors.
  • Source checking: Double-checking all references and citations to ensure that the writer accurately quoted or summarized the referenced information.
  • On-time delivery: Meeting or exceeding the deadline. If an emergency arises and you cannot meet a deadline, I expect you to let me know ahead of time so that I can plan accordingly.

Agreements
Individuals selected for the Writer and/or Editor position will need to sign the following:

  • W-9 form for tax purposes
  • Work from home agreement, indicating they are an independent contractor and not a salaried employee
  • A non-compete agreement
  • A non disclosure agreement

The selected candidates will also need to agree to background checks.
